Aura Viewing Screens

I have now performed an extensive series of experiments aimed at finding a practical and usable viewing screen. Here is a summary of my findings.

Best Solution

The most satisfactory solution, although expensive is the following:

Liquid dye solution

  • Pyrex Spectrophotometer cell
    • Starna Cells (external link) model 35-px-10 (external link)
    • ~ $135 each
    • Cylindrical, 10mm thick (pathlength 10mm,) 50mm exterior diameter, 47mm interior diameter
    • clear sides. Important point as the usual spectrophotometer cell assumes that transmission through the longest fluid path is desired, and omits polishing the large faces.
    • Pyrex is transparent to UV-A
    • Difficulty is cleaning; special solution from Starna.

This configuration of cell is almost precisely what Oscar Bagnall specified for his experimental dye viewing cells in "The Origin and Properties of the Human Aura," revised ed, 1970.

Solutions Tried

Liquid dye solution

different schemes that I have tried include
  • round perfume bottles
    • sides were not clear enough
    • took a large amount of solution
    • easy to work with, good seal
  • disposable / plastic petri dishes
    • inexpensive, different sizes
    • almost clear enough for good vision
    • sealing methods uncertain
      • caulk dissolves in dye fluid
      • hot glue gun melts plastic & forms uncertain seal
