Good gentles,
A number of you have waited patiently for quite some while for
word about what was going on with the aura goggles. I have some good news:
the contract for the boxes is in progress, so I am projecting an
availability of my new aura goggles, called PranaView, the week of March 22.
What I'd like to do is have a conversation with you and see how
you like some of the materials that I'm developing to provide with the
PranaView. What I have today is an introduction to PranaView, which I've
attached to this email as a .pdf file. If you need to get the .pdf Acrobat
reader, it is free from Adobe .
If you have any feedback, feel free to post it to this list, or send me a
private email.
I will also post this to the Primummobile
site, as the mail archiver does not handle
attachments well.
Thank you, &
Peace,
tom b-a

Tom,
Have you considered rearranging the stack ordering? The outer lens, with it's irregular surface, could me moved so that another lens comes to the fore. This would improve the Pranaview image from a photographic perspective.

Eric,
Actually, no I hadn't thought of that. I assumed that the
irregularities would effect the image no matter what order the stacking
was, so I put them outermost because they looked cool. I'll have to try
that, and certainly feel free to try that with your pair, and let me
know if it seems better to you. Put the polycarbonate (clear plastic)
filter innermost no matter what stacking order you try for the other
elements. The film filter must go between two other solid elements, or
it will fall out. :-)
If we don't use the striations out, then the next most cool glass to
show is probably the cobalt blue. I had a dream early on where I saw
goggles that pretty strongly resembled what mine look like with the blue
glass outermost, so maybe that's Important... ;-)
Thanks for the suggestion!,

I was merely referring to the cosmetics of the goggles. From my perspective, the striations make the product look somewhat homemade or unprofessional. Your dream's vision of the cobalt blue lenses outermost would get my vote for the ideal configuration.

Eric,
Oh, OK. Actually, that's useful to know too, as I thought the
striations made them look more distinctive and interesting. When I
photographed them, I worked hard to make them show up, with multiple
lights, reflectors, etc., to enhance the shadows.
That red glass has a peculiar sharp peak centered right around
400nm, which is why I like it so much. I suspect that the striations
are caused by the colorant, which is dribbled onto the hot melt after it
is poured into a sheet, perhaps to accommodate temperature sensitivity.
One of the reasons I picked from that selection of glasses was the
relatively inexpensive filters I could have made ($5 versus $55 each,)
which was crucial to allow goggles with a moderate price point. But the
tradeoff was no surface treatments or thickness control, so I have the
striations.
But, hey. I listen to drone rock, punk rock, alternative rock, I like
performance art, avant garde art, surreal art, dada art, so I probably
would like the wavy glass too.
